Consistent Readings
If all the cylinders have readings within 10 – 15% of each other and are within the normal range for the engine, that’s a good sign. It means the engine’s compression is uniform, and the valves, pistons, and rings are likely in good shape. -
Low Readings
If one or more cylinders have significantly lower readings than the others, there could be a problem. A low reading could indicate worn piston rings, leaky valves, or a blown head gasket. You’ll need to do further tests to figure out exactly what’s wrong. -
High Readings
On the flip side, if a cylinder has a higher – than – normal reading, it could mean that there’s carbon build – up in the cylinder, or the combustion chamber has been modified in some way.
